This is way too complex for most people and requires something that many of us will not have — XP software installed on the computer.
We’ve been dealing with the same issue at USC, since we’re probably moving over to the EX1 for many of our classes in the fall. The last that I heard is that the Mac version from Sony wasn’t due until September. In the meantime, we’ve had to create our own kludge.
Does the consolidate function work, the way it does on P2?

Once you get the media into the Avid you can consolidate just like you can with any media. But no, you can’t consolidate directly off the SxS card like you can with P2 media at the present time.

And, as soon as I said that thing about September, the Clip Browser comes out.
It seems to be working just fine in the tests we’re doing. Backup is still of concern with students, and we’re recommending a full back up of each SxS card onto a thumb drive before you do a damned thing with the files. Then you can do the MXF file conversion from the thumb drives and test that your back up works. With 16 gig thumb drives now available as low as $62, this seemed sensible.
What do you recommend?
