800Mbs+! Dulce Systems ProRX RAID Solutions for Final Cut Pro

Today I profile storage supplier Dulce Systems, specifically their new ProRX RAID solution for Final Cut Pro and other high data-rate creative applications. Dulce has a reputation as being one of the best and most reliable vendors in the storage marketplace, and as this profile demonstrates, they have long and extensive knowledge of mass storage products and their customers needs. I sat down with their DoTS (Director of Technical Stuff) Robert Leong who gave me the details on the ProRX. Enjoy.

Hi Larry, i’ve loved the other bits and pieces you’ve had on here, specifically your chat with Dan Lebenthal. But i just had to comment here that this particular piece felt incredibly like an infomercial….. no offense, keep up the good work, but maybe lay off the cheese with things like this.

    Regards,

    Matt

    Point taken.

    Thanks for the feedback Matt.

    Best,
    Larry J.

  3. Norman Hollyn Says:

I tend to agree with Matt. I actually LIKE product discussion (I like the OTHER Larry Jordan’s Digital Production Buzz) but he asks tougher questions, broadens the discussion to workflow and other production issues, and he and Mike Horton discuss downfalls and pitfalls.

This might be fine, stripped down, and combined with some other storage solutions as part of a larger podcast. More work, I know, but more valuable for us.

On the other hand, I’m in awe of anyone who DOES these videocasts. So - keep ‘em up.

  4. hdfilmtools Says:

Yes. Not sure Prof. Hollyn necessarily needed to compare moi and moi style to a such a more experienced teacher, lecturer, interviewer and podcaster (who also just happens to have the same name as me) as the illustrious Mr. Jordan, but hey, I’m a big boy and like I said to Matt, point taken.

This was my second of these “Product Spotlights”. I’m somewhat satisfied with the way it turned out, but I certainly see tremendous room for improvement*. I don’t get paid by the manufacturer’s for these segments, as up to this point I generally do them for fun and for my genuine excitement about great products, companies and technology. In the case of Dulce Systems, I firmly stand behind this enthusiasm. These people are the real deal. They make great products for my purposes and they stand behind them. I know this from experience, and I let it be known in my webcasts.

That’s one of the great powers of the internet. I am a trusted source (or not). I say this is a great company with a great reputation that stands behind it’s products and, having a slightly higher media profile than your average Amazon reviewer, I get a bit of sway. If my readers are having a problem with the companies I endorse or one of their products. I’ll go directly to them with it. They know I have staked part of my reputation on them. If they let you down, I’ll let you know by ceasing to support them.

*A personal sidenote. The day the Dulce Systems interview took place I was experiencing the apex of pain caused by the rupture of two disks in my cervical spine. To top it off, We had to redo much of the interview for audio issues. The great part was that Robert Leong was such a good sport, and we had so much fun doing the piece that all the tech, and my personal physical nightmares didn’t even matter.

As always, thanks much for the feedback,
    LJ

  5. Loren Miller Says:

I wouldn’t have a problem if the vendor paid for the exposure, provided you do an objective, reasonably balanced, realworld, pro-con thing. Some vendors don’t mind that, believe it or not, and you can pick up some change that way.

IMHO, if you enjoy doing it, and you’re giving it away, make some dough at it! The other Larry does it, plugging various useful tools right in class. Just stay objective, as he always attempts to do.

I have a genetic pre-disposition to get inordinately excited when I hear, see and/or get to work with tools that are going to make my life easier, better, more creatively flexible and in-turn more satisfying and fun. I guess that’s one of the reasons I do these sites.
I think what Matt, the original poster was picking up on was that it’s ok to be excited and positive about the subject matter, It’s just that it’s also important to present with some semblance of objectivity so the segments don’t end up sounding like those late night commercials selling shit on TV.
